Breast Asymmetry

Breast asymmetry is the difference that may exist between one breast and the other (unequal breasts). It may occur as a congenital condition (such as tuberous breasts), as a consequence of previous surgery, or as a consequence of pregnancy and lactation.

Most patients report a loss of confidence and even discomfort when wearing or shopping for a bra.

The Intervention

There are several surgical options available to restore greater symmetry between your breasts.

Dr Garcia Ceballos
uses several techniques to try to accommodate both breasts in a situation of greater symmetry in terms of volume and shape:

  • fat transfer
  • polyurethane or silicone-coated breast implants, breast expanders, silicone-coated implants
  • or the reshaping of your breast tissue by molding it.

In many cases, these techniques are combined to obtain the best result.

Asymmetric breasts can be corrected in a single operation.

Dr Garcia Ceballos during your consultation will most likely present you with several treatment options and will help you come to the best possible conclusion regarding the procedure. Sometimes it is necessary to make a second consultation to solve your doubts about the different options and thus reach a consensual decision with the Doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

In the past, injectable techniques have been used to correct volume asymmetries in breast surgery that have been discarded due to the side effects they caused. Breast asymmetries are corrected with surgery including fat grafting.

If you have asymmetrical breasts it is possible to correct them with implants but they could also be corrected by other techniques such as lipografting or reduction and/or elevation surgery.

There are different types of procedures to correct breast symmetry: lipofilling, mastopexy, reduction and the incorporation of implants are procedures that either alone or in combination are used to correct breast symmetry.

It should be said that all women have some type of breast asymmetry. The asymmetry can be very slight and practically imperceptible, or it can be very noticeable. In the case of a notable asymmetry, it can lead to both problems when dressing, due to a lack of bra fit, and to an alteration of self-esteem.
In other cases, the patient is doing well. From a functional point of view there is no problem with asymmetrical breasts.

Yes, breast asymmetry can be corrected without correcting the nipple or areola. For this purpose, the degree of perception of each patient and the degree of asymmetry suffered by the patient must be assessed.

Breast growth may be altered during breast formation. This may result in some difference in the height of the areolas. Sometimes there are diseases that can cause this type of asymmetry such as Poland’s syndrome, breast cancer or acquired alterations.

Moms can grow asymmetrically and this is normal. Even so, there are some congenital and acquired disorders that can cause asymmetric breast growth.

The nipple in normal conditions can acquire different aspects and this does not mean that it is abnormal. However, there are some nipple alterations caused by disease, some of which should be investigated when making an assessment of the nipple shape.

The nipple areola should not be one specific way. There are a multitude of shapes and textures of areolas. Even so, aesthetic standards speak of an areola of about 3.5 cm in diameter as the ideal one. This is not really of much relevance since it always depends on the breast volume. The proportion between breast volume and areolar diameter is very important for a harmonious result.

The price of a breast asymmetry correction can vary from 3000 ‚ā¨ to 15.000 ‚ā¨ depending on the type of asymmetry.
