Facial Lipofilling

Facial lipofilling is a surgical procedure by which fat is extracted from a part of the body and implanted in the face in order to provide volume and improve appearance.

Over time, facial tissues lose volume, lose fat and lose bone volume.

Thereare different ways to recover lost volume, one of them is own fat.

It has been widely accepted for several years that the use of one’s own fat as a facial filler is a good tool to rejuvenate the facial appearance, providing volume in a lasting way.

The procedure for the use of fat as a facial graft in what we call facial lipofilling.

Facial fat grafting

People who can benefit from this type of treatment must have enough fat in some part of their body, to be able to extract it, process it and inject it as a filler (fat graft).

It consists of an extraction by means liposuction and its subsequent processing of fat for grafting, it is what is called lipotransfer.

The volume to be extracted to perform a complete facial filler can be around 50 cm3.

The procedure for fat extraction, which will later be used as facial lipofilling , is performed differently from liposuction to reduce the volume of a specific area of the body. The difference is that the cannulas used to extract this fat from grafts are finer.

Fat processing: Once the fat is extracted, it is processed. Currently we can make different fat preparations depending on the filling needs that we need to cover. Thus, a larger or smaller fat can be made, even becoming liquid (nanofat). We also know that if we add growth factors, particularly LPRF, to the grafted fat, the viability of this fat increases.1,2

Anesthesia: This amount could be performed by a procedure under local anesthesia for fillings that are not too intense. It is possible to perform them under general anesthesia when the amount of fat to be extracted and grafted is large enough and estimated an improvement in treatment conditions

The intervention is normal for certain bruises to appear in the liposuction grafted areas.

Usually the postoperative in the fat graft area is not annoying, although it may present discomfort and bruises in the liposuctioned area.

After the intervention, a compressive girdle or bandage is applied in the area from which the fat has been extracted. One week and 14 days after the intervention, we carry out a new application of growth factors in the grafted fat to improve the viability of the fat. This is going to make your facial appearance appear puffy during these two weeks to a greater or lesser degree.

During the postoperative period we offer the possibility of treating bruises with a laser a week and a month after treatment.

The permanence of the injected fat is precisely one of the inconveniences that we must have before undergoing this procedure, since part of the fat can disappear during the postoperative period.

In any case, the regenerative capacities of both the fat and the growth factors mean that we benefit from both the volume provided to the grafted area and the quality of the skin.

Over time, this edema settles and the definitive result can be seen 2 months after the intervention.

If the patient wants a greater facial volume after 3 months and there are enough fat deposits in his body, the procedure can be done again to increase it.

Our facial lipofilling interventions incorporate a treatment for scars using PRP, growth factors.

We also offer the possibility of applying a laser treatment to bruises from liposuction a week and a month after the intervention.
