Liposuction or Liposculpture

Liposuction is a procedure that allows you to sculpt your body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks, and the neck.

Over the last decade, liposuction has benefited from new advances and has also been given several different names such as lipolaser or vaser.

Lipolaser or vaser: is a method of liposuction that reduces postoperative bruising, swelling and pain. Because blood loss is minimized during tumescent liposuction, use of this technique reduces the chance that a blood transfusion will be needed.

These techniques help plastic surgeons provide selected patients with better results and quicker recovery periods.

Liposuction is designed to reshape your silhouette and reduce volume, not weight. Liposuction can remove areas of fat that do not respond to traditional methods.

A careful evaluation of your body is essential so that you can obtain the best results. Elastic skin types respond better to remodeling after liposuction than less elastic skin types, where excess skin can develop after excessive liposuction.

Liposuction candidates

A careful evaluation of your body is paramount so you can get the best results:

Elastic skin types respond better to remodeling after liposuction than less elastic skin types, where excess skin can develop after excessive liposuction.

It is important to understand what liposuction can do for you.

The best candidates for liposuction are those with firm, elastic skin who have certain localized areas of excess fat, and who are very close to their normal body weight.

When the purpose of liposuction is to obtain fat for fat grafting, the procedure is called Lipotransfer.

Our liposuction surgery incorporates treatment for scars during the intervention using growth factors
We also offer the possibility of applying a laser treatment to the scars one week and one month after the intervention.

The combination of these two treatments improves the quality and healing time of scars.

We carry out this intervention in Palma de Mallorca.

The price of the intervention is delivered after consulting with Dr. García Ceballos.

During the consultation you will be able to see before and after photos of cases similar to yours.

If you travel or consult us from anywhere in Spain, UK or Europe you can request your telematic consultation via Skype.

It is convenient to put yourself in the hands of a specialist in Plastic cosmetic and reconstructive surgery to carry out this type of intervention.

Lipotransference or Fat graft

A Lipotransfer is a liposuction for the realization of a fat graft, or lipofilling.

Depending on the areas where the fat is directed, the amount extracted may vary. Sufficient fat deposits must exist to perform a fat graft.

Anesthesia: This intervention can be performed under local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the amount of fat to be extracted and the area of fat grafting.

Result: after lipotransfer or fat grafting, there is an increase in volume in the grafted area that can decrease over time. The residual fat will be permanent. (*see graph)

Lipotransference or Fat graft

  1. Liposuction: when the purpose of liposuction is to obtain fat for fat grafting, the procedure is performed with cannulas usually of a finer diameter
  2. Fat processing: Once the fat is extracted, it is purified in a closed circuit, with the aim of reducing the risk of infections and exposure of the fat to the air.
Once the clean fat is obtained, it is distributed in syringes of an adequate volume so that, later, by using a gun, it is deposited in different layers in the areas to be grafted.
  3. Fat grafting: the fat extracted in liposuction can be used as a filler through processing and injection; This is what is called lipofilling or fat grafting.
Thus, it can be used for breast augmentation with own fat or buttock augmentation (BBL)

The areas where fat grafts can be applied, among the most common include:

  • facial lipofilling for rejuvenation exclusively or combined with facelift facial
  • for facial fillers, cheekbones, lips and/or nasolabial folds
  • lipofilling of the back of the hands
  • lipofilling of the breasts
  • correction of anomalies such as rippling, defects of portions of breast tissue in breast cancer, correction of irregularities after liposuction, correction of sunken eyes

How fat grafting or lipofilling behaves:

Fat grafting or lipofilling increases the volume of the treated areas, improving their skin quality.

After the graft, there is an increase in volume that will be maintained for a period of time, after which there may be a decrease in it. (See graphic)

Grafh

Once the content is stabilized, it is permanent and will vary according to the weight changes of each person.

If a larger volume is desired, the procedure can be repeated. The effect of this second fat grafting is cumulative, that is, the volume obtained again from the first intervention is increased.

Our lipotransfer operations incorporate a treatment for scars using PRP, growth factors.
We also offer the possibility of applying a laser treatment to the scars of the lipotransfer operation a week and a month after the intervention.

The combination of these two treatments improve the quality and healing time of the scars.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions

Liposuction is a surgical technique by which subcutaneous fat is extracted through the use of suction cannulas.

Depending on the amount of fat removed, the weight lost after liposuction can vary. Keep in mind that fat is an insulating tissue for the body that prevents heat loss. As an insulator, it weighs relatively less than it occupies.

In short, if you are overweight and you are thinking of having liposuction to lose kilos, you will not achieve a great loss.

The results of liposuction are permanent. If you were to gain weight after liposuction, the liposuctioned areas would gain less weight than the untreated areas.

Liposuction is a unique procedure although there are auxiliary techniques to perform it, among them we find variable ultrasound liposuction (VASER), laser-assisted liposuction, water-assisted liposuction (WAL).

Laser-assisted liposuction is known as laser liposuction. During this procedure, the fat is dissolved by means of a laser light fiber. Once the fat is diluted, it is extracted using traditional liposuction cannulas. In some cases, where the amount of fat is minimal, extraction by traditional cannula can be avoided.

Defenders of laser liposuction defend it by explaining that it produces greater skin retraction and less trauma to the liposuctioned area. Scientific studies have not been able to show that such an effect is real*. It must be taken into account that for the definition of a laser-assisted liposuction, a traditional liposuction is also necessary.

Laser-assisted liposuction takes a longer surgical time, since it is necessary to pass the laser cannula first and then perform the extraction in a traditional way.

The number of liposuctions that can be performed in an area will depend on the residual fat.

The fat from liposuction is normally discarded, although in those cases where the patient is a candidate to be treated with a fat graft, it can be used. Thus we can perform lipofillings on the face, on the breasts, on the buttocks and on the back of the hands in a more usual way.

A lipotransfer is a liposuction for fat grafting, or lipofilling.

Before having a fat transfer, you should know that you need to have enough fat deposits so that it can be extracted and used.
After fat grafting, there is an increase in volume in the grafted area that can decrease over time. The residual fat will be permanent.

The best way to obtain a good result after liposuction is to carry out your procedure in a cautious manner by a qualified professional. After liposuction, the application of radiofrequency lymphatic drainage is beneficial, which will facilitate postoperative edema. Likewise, compression during this period is important through an orthopedic girdle.

Although there is no defined maximum fat to be extracted in a liposuction, it is recommended not to undergo large liposuctions (above 2 liters) since this increases the general complications derived from the procedure.

The results of a liposuction can be perceived immediately, although the definitive results will appear from the sixth or seventh month after the intervention.
